We have been so impressed with how well the children have settled and how enthusiastic they are to learn. Mrs Taylor and I could not have asked for a better Bonsai Class.
We have started our phonics learning. Many parents attended the phonics workshop, it was a fantastic opportunity to see how we teach phonics at West Borough. This will help the children with reading and writing later in the year. If you have any questions about phonics, please do not hesitate to ask.
The children's favourite phonics activities so far have been; phonics musical statues, 'what's in the box?' and games on the interactive whiteboard. So far we have learnt the names, sound and actions for s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d and g.
Our daily maths time has also started over the past week. We are following a mastery approach. This means we will be moving slowly and building strong foundations in understanding as well as building in opportunities for problem solving.
We will be learning how to count on and back from 1-5, matching names and numbers (e.g. one = 1) and recognising numbers in different contexts. The children have enjoyed practical activities and exploring numbers in our outside area.
It has been great to see the children exploring the outside area. Their confidence is growing and friendships are blooming! We encourage responsibility and respect, so the children tidy everything up. The bikes and role play areas have been very popular!
Our learning this week has been about the Mike Inkpen book 'Kipper's big blue balloon'. We are looking forward to sharing our learning with you at the upcoming TLCs.
