Their first task was to produce non-chronological reports with their peers. After safe research on the internet the children were able to write paragraphs together in their groups and then present it to the rest of the class.
We have also learnt about the phases of the moon, how the sun and moon rotate and how seasons are created. This week we conducted a gravity investigation and found some interesting results when dropping cardboard spinners. A highlight of the term was a visit from the Astrodome. The children were blown away by the images, videos and constellations displayed. We all learnt a lot that morning!
In Maths, we have been getting to grips with maths mastery. Our first focus has been place value. The children’s reasoning skills are steadily improving and so is their confidence with larger numbers. We have also revisited addition, subtraction and multiplication. Next term division and then fractions.
In English, we have focussed our studies around the text ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce. We have looked at description, poetry and newspaper articles to name a few. The children are looking forward to seeing if Liam and Florida ever do return from China.
Finally, we cannot commend the children highly enough on their standard of Home Learning this term. Choosing only one person to receive the ‘Home Learning Award’ has been a tricky task. A HUGE improvement since last summer and one we hope will continue for the rest of the year.
Next term: Time Travel …
